What is a Christian microschool?
A microschool is a small, multi-day school — usually 5 to 25 students per classroom — that blends the personalized attention of homeschooling with the structure of a traditional school. Christian microschools weave a biblical worldview through every subject, often emphasize mastery- or project-based learning, and give students close relationships with teachers and classmates.
Why Arizona families choose microschools
Microschools offer faith-grounded academics in a small-group setting without the cost or size of a large private school. Arizona's universal ESA program makes microschool tuition reimbursable for many families, putting an option that was once out of reach within reach.
What to look for in a microschool
- Statement of faith. Microschools that require a statement of faith.
- Grade levels. Many serve K–8; some go through high school.
- Schedule. Four-day and five-day weeks are most common.
- ESA acceptance. Microschools that accept ESA.

Little Risers Schoolhouse is a faith-based, back-to-basics school located in Surprise. Our mission is to help raise the next generation to know the Lord, in education, and life skills! We begin each day with the pledges, Bible time, and standard-based academics to build a strong educational foundation for every child. After academics, we transition into hands-on life skills learning, where students engage in meaningful activities such as gardening, caring for our farm animals, cooking, sewing, and more. Our goal is to nurture the whole child academically, spiritually, and practically by helping them grow in knowledge, character, and real-life skills. We offer a full-time program Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with before and aftercare available for families who need additional flexibility.

Traditions Academy
At Traditions Academy’s Cordes Lakes Christian Campus, we partner with families to provide a Christ-centered education that nurtures each child’s unique gifts and character. Rooted in biblical truth and academic excellence, we reject the one-size-fits-all model. Instead, we celebrate every student as an individual created in God’s image—strengthening their God-given strengths while lovingly supporting growth in areas of need. Our goal is to raise up joyful, lifelong learners who love the Lord and are equipped to serve Him and their communities. Our flexible, teacher-led schedule blends rigorous academics with real-life learning and spiritual formation. Students engage in personalized lessons in core subjects, Bible study, and character development. Teachers incorporate hands-on projects, field trips, community service, and plenty of outdoor time. Because class sizes are very small, every child receives abundant one-on-one attention. Parents are always welcome, and many families participate in weekly activities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
Lopez Academy
Lopez Academy is a K-12 Christian microschool providing a Contemporary Christian Education—think classical Christian but for the AI-generation. Frequently asked questions
- What is a Christian microschool?
- A Christian microschool is a small, intentionally-sized school — typically 5 to 25 students per classroom — that integrates a biblical worldview throughout academics. Microschools combine the personalized attention of homeschooling with the structure and community of a school, often meeting 4 or 5 days per week.
- How is a microschool different from a co-op or private school?
- A co-op usually meets one day a week and parents stay involved as teachers. A traditional Christian private school is a full 5-day school with larger classes and standardized programming. A microschool sits in between: it meets most of the school week, has a small student body, and often uses mastery-based or project-based learning instead of a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
- Do Arizona microschools accept ESA funds?
- Many do. Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) can be used to pay microschool tuition when the microschool qualifies as an eligible provider. Look for the 'Accepts ESA' or 'ESA Vendor' badge on each listing, and see our Arizona ESA Guide for current rules.
- What grades do microschools serve?
- Most Arizona Christian microschools serve elementary and middle school, with a growing number adding high school grades. Filter listings by grade level to see which microschools fit your student.
- What does a Christian microschool cost?
- Tuition typically ranges from $5,000 to $12,000 per year in Arizona, depending on size, schedule, and facility. With Arizona's universal ESA program covering roughly $7,000+ per student, families can often apply ESA funds toward most or all of the tuition.
- Are Christian microschools accredited?
- Some are; many are not. Microschools often operate under Arizona's homeschool statutes rather than as accredited private schools, which gives them flexibility in curriculum and scheduling. Ask each microschool about accreditation, transcripts, and how they handle high school credit if that matters for your family.

Know the difference
Homeschooling and ESA-funded education are not the same thing
Under Arizona law these are two distinct pathways with different rules. We label every listing with the pathway it primarily serves so you know what you're signing up for.
Homeschooling (ARS §15-802)
Parent files an Affidavit of Intent. No public funds. Parent picks any curriculum and keeps full control. Co-ops, tutors, and enrichment are paid out of pocket.
ESA-funded education
Family signs the ESA contract and the affidavit is withdrawn. Quarterly funds flow through ClassWallet, expenses must fit ADE's allowable list, and receipts are required. Legally not homeschooling.
