Scripture text from the King James Version (public domain). A free keyboarding practice tool — no sign-up, and progress is not saved between sessions.
How it works
- Pick a track — Verses, Prayers, or Bible Stories.
- Pick a level. Beginner is short and forgiving; Steady runs full passages like John 3:16.
- Click the passage and start typing. Correct letters light up as you go.
- A wrong key never counts against the passage — the letter just waits for another try.
- Finish the passage, read the blessing, and press Next.
Why typing Scripture works for keyboarding practice
Most typing programs drill nonsense strings — asdf jkl; repeated until a child tunes out. Real sentences are better practice because they include capitals, punctuation, and natural word spacing, which is what actual writing requires.
Scripture adds a second benefit: repetition of a verse is how memorization has always worked. A child typing Psalm 23 slowly, letter by letter, is engaging the passage more closely than a child skimming it. Families often pair this with their weekly memory verse — type it Monday through Friday, recite it Saturday.
The feedback design matters too. Because a mistyped letter is never recorded and never flashes red, an anxious or dysgraphic learner does not accumulate a wall of errors on screen. The passage only ever shows correct work.
Fitting it into a homeschool routine
| Grades | Level | Suggested daily time | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| K-2 | Beginner | 5-10 minutes | Find the letters; accuracy over speed |
| 3-5 | Growing | 10-15 minutes | Home row habits, 15-25 WPM |
| 6-8 | Steady | 15 minutes | Punctuation and capitals, 30-40 WPM |
| 9-12 | Steady | 10 minutes as warm-up | Maintain 45+ WPM for essays |
Short and daily beats long and occasional. Ten focused minutes each morning will move a fourth grader further in a month than a single hour on Friday.

Frequently asked questions
Are these Bible typing lessons really free?
Yes. The typing practice tool is completely free, requires no account, no download, and no payment. It runs in any modern browser on a laptop, Chromebook, or tablet with a keyboard.
What age or grade is this best for?
The Beginner level suits grades K-2 with short lines like 'Jesus wept.' Growing works well for grades 3-5 with one full sentence at a time. Steady is for grades 6 and up with longer passages such as John 3:16 or the full Lord's Prayer.
Which Bible translation is used?
All Scripture is the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Prayers and story summaries use KJV wording as well.
Does it save my child's progress?
No. Stats reset each session by design — there is nothing to sign up for and no personal data is collected from your child. Note the words-per-minute and accuracy at the end of a session if you want to track growth over time.
What happens when my child types the wrong letter?
Nothing scary. A wrong keystroke is not recorded and there is no red flash. The current letter simply gets a soft underline so your child knows to try again. Only correct letters advance the passage, which keeps early typers from spiraling.
Can this count as keyboarding for our homeschool records?
Many Arizona families log keyboarding as part of technology or handwriting-and-composition time. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is a typical amount for elementary students. Record it however you normally document electives.
Can ESA funds be used for typing curriculum?
This tool is free, so there is nothing to pay for. Paid keyboarding curriculum is sometimes purchased as a supplemental or technology expense, but approval depends on current ADE guidance and how the item is classified — check the ESA handbook before you buy.
Does it work on a tablet or phone?
It works best with a physical keyboard. On a tablet with an attached keyboard it works the same as a laptop. On a phone the on-screen keyboard will appear, but the experience is cramped and not recommended for real practice.
