What ClassWallet is (and isn't)

ClassWallet is a third-party financial platform contracted by the Arizona Department of Education to manage ESA spending. It is not ADE itself. All your ESA funds live in a ClassWallet account, and every approved purchase flows through the platform.

The three ways to spend

  1. Marketplace — shop the in-app storefront for pre-approved items. Everything here is automatically approved.
  2. Direct pay — request ClassWallet to send funds directly to a registered ESA vendor (private school tuition, a tutor, a microschool).
  3. Reimbursement — pay out of pocket, upload the itemized receipt, and get reimbursed to your linked bank.

Avoiding denials

The most common reasons a purchase or reimbursement is denied:

  • Item isn't on the approved list — check the approved-expense guide before buying anything unusual.
  • Receipt isn't itemized — a total-only receipt won't clear.
  • Educational purpose wasn't explained clearly in the reimbursement note.
  • Purchase was made before your ESA contract start date.
  • Vendor isn't registered with ClassWallet for direct pay.

Login issues

Use the email tied to your ESA contract. If you've locked yourself out, use the reset link — do NOT create a second account, or your funds won't appear. If reset doesn't work, contact ClassWallet support from the login screen.

Quarterly reporting

Submit your quarterly expense report inside ClassWallet before the deadline (end of October, January, April, July). A missed report delays your next funding deposit until you file.

ClassWallet vs. ADE support

Route your question to the right team:

  • ClassWallet support — technical (login, marketplace, payment mechanics, reimbursement status)
  • ADE ESA support — policy (is this expense approved, appeals, contract questions, disability tier)

Frequently asked questions

What is ClassWallet?

ClassWallet is the third-party platform that manages Arizona ESA spending. All ESA money is held in your ClassWallet account, and every approved purchase flows through it — either as a marketplace buy, a direct-pay to a vendor, or a reimbursement to you.

How do I log in to ClassWallet?

Go to classwallet.com and click Login. Use the email you registered with when your ESA contract was activated. If you've forgotten your password, use the reset link — do not create a second account, or your ESA funds won't be visible.

How do I make a purchase with ClassWallet?

Three ways: (1) shop the ClassWallet marketplace for approved items; (2) request direct pay to a registered ESA vendor (school tuition, tutoring); (3) pay out of pocket and file a reimbursement with the receipt.

What is the ClassWallet marketplace?

It's an in-app storefront of pre-approved educational items — curriculum, books, supplies, technology, subscriptions. Anything you buy here is automatically approved. It's the safest way to spend ESA funds without risking a denial.

How do reimbursements work?

Pay for the eligible expense yourself, then upload the itemized receipt in ClassWallet along with a short description of educational purpose. Approved reimbursements deposit to your linked bank account, usually within 5-10 business days.

Why was my reimbursement denied?

The most common reasons: the item isn't on the approved list; the receipt isn't itemized; educational purpose wasn't explained; the purchase was made before your contract start date. Most denials are appealable — respond with more documentation and resubmit.

What items are pre-approved for purchase?

See our full list at What Arizona ESA Covers. In general: curriculum, textbooks, workbooks, standardized tests, tutoring, therapy, PE and enrichment classes, computers and educational software, and select supplies. Non-educational items (household goods, entertainment, family travel) are not approved.

Can I pay tuition through ClassWallet?

Yes — private Christian schools, microschools, and hybrid programs registered as ESA vendors accept direct-pay tuition through ClassWallet. Request the payment inside the app and ClassWallet transfers the funds to the school.

How do I file a quarterly expense report?

In ClassWallet under Reports, submit your quarterly summary before the deadline. Deadlines are typically the end of October, January, April, and July. Missing a report delays your next funding deposit.

What if ClassWallet support isn't responding?

ClassWallet's built-in support handles most issues. For ESA-specific policy questions (whether an item is approved, appeal outcomes), contact ADE ESA support directly at azed.gov/esa. The two teams handle different problems.
