Veritas Homeschoolers

Veritas Homeschoolers - East Valley, Inc. is a 501c3 Christian homeschool support group which provides opportunities to meet and network with like-minded homeschool families. Our community is spread across the East Valley – from Queen Creek to Ahwatukee, and Mesa/Tempe to Chandler/Gilbert. We have more than 60 families, with kids of all ages and a full range of homeschooling experience represented. We offer monthly park days, field trips, service opportunities and more. PARK DAYS – Typically fall on the first Friday of the month at a local park. These offer homeschooling moms time to relax with friends while their kids play. Occasionally, speakers or a special holiday event or activity are included. Visitors are welcome to attend one Park Day to determine whether or not they wish to join. If you would like to visit, please use contact us to request more information. PICNIC in the PARK – These are held halfway through the month, and are an easy way to take a break from the school day. Most families bring their lunch and a blanket. FIELD TRIPS and SERVICE PROJECTS – Field trips are organized by members and are offered at least once a month, but more often twice. They can be located all over the Valley and beyond. Some examples: Phoenix Herpetological Society tour, MIM, Shamrock farms, Phoenix Zoo or Botanical Garden, a firehouse, MCC Performing Arts Center, etc. While we have an ongoing service project, we offer our members additional opportunities to serve their communities throughout the year. VERI-TALK – In addition to connecting in person at events, members receive support and encouragement through our member only email discussion group, Veri-Talk. It’s a great way to get advice for homeschooling, learn about curriculums, share prayer requests, and get referrals for anything and everything – piano teachers to A/C repair. Members use Veri-talk to share information about the latest homeschool events, book sales, or to schedule impromptu meetups and playdates. Veri-talk also provides members with a network of veteran homeschoolers who have graduated their kids and know the ins and outs of the high school to college/trades/life transition, and who are willing to answer questions and share their own experiences. SERVING – Veritas is a volunteer-led organization which relies on its members to lead, organize, and coordinate activities and administrative responsibilities. While this changes what we offer from year to year, it also produces dynamic opportunities. Volunteering is a requirement of membership.

Mesa sits in the heart of Arizona's East Valley, which has one of the largest concentrations of faith-based homeschool community in the state. Families in Mesa can choose between full academic co-ops with weekly class days, several broader East Valley co-ops that draw Mesa families, Christian sports and enrichment clubs, and support groups built around park days and fellowship. Below are the active Christian-emphasis options serving Mesa.

A quick note before you reach out: every group sets its own membership requirements, statement of faith, dues, and meeting schedule. Confirm current details directly, since leadership and locations can change year to year. A couple of well-known groups recently rebranded (see the note on the "Branches" split below), so names in older directories may be out of date. Many of these groups also operate primarily through Facebook, so a Facebook search is often the fastest way to reach a current leader.

Facebook-First Groups

Some Mesa-area homeschool community lives primarily on Facebook, where local park-day and co-op coordination happens. These are worth joining to find current, hyper-local groups and meetups that never make it into formal directories:

  • Mesa, Arizona Homeschool Co-Ops - a local Facebook group for connecting with Mesa co-ops and families: facebook.com/groups/569902323668433
  • Search Facebook for "Mesa AZ homeschool," "East Valley Christian homeschool," and the named groups above (Veritas, Steadfast, GRACE, EVAC), most of which maintain active Facebook pages or private groups.

A Note on the "Branches" Split

If you're searching older listings, two East Valley co-ops used to operate under the Branches name and rebranded in May 2025, keeping the same leadership and members:

  • Branches Mesa → GRACE Homeschool Community (Mesa, Wednesdays)
  • Branches Chandler → Steadfast Homeschool Community (Chandler, Mondays)

There is still a separate Branches organization with other Valley campuses, so the name hasn't disappeared entirely.

Also in the Area (Different Models)

  • Summit View Homeschool Cooperative - A large East Valley co-op including Mesa, but secular/inclusive rather than Christian. Worth knowing so you can tell it apart from the faith-based options.
  • CoYoTE (Christian Youth Together in Education) - A Christian co-op in the broader Phoenix/Scottsdale area; confirm current meeting location to see if it's practical from Mesa. Contact: CoYoTEScottsdaleAZ@gmail.com.
  • Catholic options - The main traditional Catholic homeschool co-op (St. Catherine of Siena Homeschool Apostolate) is in Phoenix/Laveen, not Mesa. Catholic families in Mesa sometimes connect through the Diocese of Phoenix or the annual Arizona Catholic Homeschool Conference (recently hosted at St. Anne Parish in Gilbert).

How to Choose

Want a full academic co-op in Mesa itself? GRACE is your primary option (Wednesdays, near Stapley and University).

Flexible on day/location? Steadfast (Mondays, Chandler) and Gather at Grace (Wednesdays) are strong East Valley co-ops that welcome Mesa families.

Want community without a class-day commitment? Veritas, H.E.R.O., Eastside Explorers, or the Fountain Hills/Mesa/Scottsdale group center on park days, field trips, and fellowship while you direct your own curriculum.

Want sports, speech, or debate? EVAC (sports) and C.O.M.M.A.N.D. (speech and debate) let you add Christian enrichment without joining a full co-op.

Want to visit first? Most groups welcome prospective families at a park day or open house. GRACE requires an open house before applying, and Steadfast brings new families on full-time, so start those conversations early.

ESA Funding Note

If you use an Arizona ESA (Empowerment Scholarship Account), co-op tuition, curriculum, and enrichment classes may be eligible expenses depending on the program and how it is structured. Confirm eligibility through your ESA portal and keep itemized receipts. Structured academic co-op fees (GRACE, Steadfast, Gather at Grace) are often billable, while support-group dues and informal park-day groups typically are not. Several East Valley co-ops note that ESA funding has reshaped the local landscape, driving strong demand and earlier registration deadlines, so apply early.
