Mesa's Christian education scene is unusual: a very deep bench of church preschools, but only a handful of full-time K-12 Christian schools. The three main campuses each solve a different problem - a four-day week, a K-12 accredited college-prep track, and a confessional Lutheran PreK-8. Everything else is a short drive into Gilbert or Chandler.
Below: what counts as a full-time Christian school in Mesa, the tradeoffs of each model, cost with and without Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), and the current directory.
What Is a Full-Time Private Christian School?

The Mesa Landscape
Canyon Heights Christian Academy runs a K-8 Christ-centered program on a four-day week - Monday through Thursday, with all coursework completed on campus. Friday is genuinely free. For families who want structure most of the week but one open day for co-op, therapy, tutoring, or travel, this is the East Valley's most interesting schedule.
Faith Christian School is a traditional accredited K-12 school with small classes, personalized instruction, and a college-prep track. It is the option in Mesa for families who want one campus from kindergarten through graduation.
Pilgrim Lutheran School is a WELS PreK-8 school with tuition around $10,000, confessional Lutheran doctrine, a strong music tradition, and a preschool feeding directly into the elementary grades.
Beyond Mesa, families commute to Gilbert - the deepest Christian school market in the East Valley - and to Chandler for classical and larger high school programs.
Benefits
A four-day week actually exists here. Canyon Heights makes hybrid-style flexibility possible without giving up an accredited, teacher-led classroom.
K-12 continuity. Faith Christian keeps a family on one campus for 13 years.
Denominational depth. Pilgrim's WELS identity is not decorative - liturgy, catechism, and music are part of the week.
ESA covers most or all of K-8 tuition. Arizona's ESA is roughly $7,000-$8,000 per K-12 student per year with no income cap.
Potential Drawbacks
The list is short. Three full-time campuses in a city of half a million. Popular grades fill early, and families regularly cross into Gilbert.
Most Christian options in Mesa are preschools. Mesa has more than a dozen strong church preschool programs and very few K-12 schools - see the Mesa Christian preschools guide if that is the age you are shopping for.
High school choice is limited to one campus in town. Families wanting varsity athletics or AP breadth usually look at Gilbert or Chandler, or online - see Best Online Christian High Schools.

What They Typically Teach
Curriculum. Abeka, BJU Press, Purposeful Design, and ACSI titles alongside mainstream texts taught from a biblical worldview; Lutheran schools add catechism. See ESA-approved Bible curriculum.
Bible and chapel. Daily Bible K-8 and weekly chapel at all three campuses.
Athletics. Mesa's smaller Christian schools compete in the Canyon Athletic Association. Homeschool and small-school athletes also play with EVAC (East Valley Athletes for Christ), a Christian homeschool sports program fielding CAA teams out of Mesa.
Testing. Stanford 10, Iowa, or MAP annually.

ESA Compatibility
The full-time Mesa Christian schools we track are registered ESA vendors payable through ClassWallet.
- ESA replaces the homeschool affidavit - see Homeschool vs. ESA in Arizona.
- A four-day school and ESA work well together. The free day is commonly used for ESA-funded tutoring, therapy, or enrichment - all separately reimbursable.
- Confirm vendor status in writing before signing. Program rules: Arizona Department of Education ESA.
Christian Kindergarten in Mesa
Kindergarten is the first ESA-funded year, and in Mesa it is usually the step out of a church preschool. Canyon Heights, Faith Christian, and Pilgrim Lutheran all take kindergarten cohorts; Noah's Ark Preschool & Kindergarten offers a smaller kindergarten inside a Lutheran preschool setting. Apply in January or February. Start with the Mesa Christian preschools guide if you are still in the preschool years.
How to Choose
- Start with the calendar. Four-day vs. five-day changes your whole family rhythm.
- Decide whether you need a high school on the same campus.
- Read the statement of faith.
- Ask for the all-in annual number, not just tuition.
- Confirm ESA vendor status in writing.
- Compare against Gilbert before you commit - it is 15 minutes away and much deeper.
