Spotlighted programs in this guide
Surprise doesn't yet have a dedicated Christian tutor listed in this directory, but Northwest Valley homeschool families have solid access — most Christian tutors serving Surprise either drive over from Peoria and Glendale, or work online. Arizona's ESA covers the cost either way.
What Surprise Families Actually Do
Three practical paths:
- Hire a Northwest Valley tutor. Peoria and Glendale tutors — including Sara Delgado (dyslexia-trained, 26 years experience) and One Kingdom Special Education Services — drive west for in-person sessions, or meet at libraries, co-ops, or church buildings.
- Hire online. For high-school math, Chemistry, Latin, and ACT/SAT/CLT test prep, online tutoring is standard practice and gives Surprise families access to the best Christian subject specialists nationwide.
- Ask at your co-op or microschool. Teachers at Surprise Christian microschools and Surprise co-ops commonly tutor in afternoons and on weekends.
When Surprise Families Hire a Tutor
- Math has stalled — Saxon, Math-U-See, or Teaching Textbooks.
- A struggling or dyslexic reader — Orton-Gillingham or Barton.
- High school — Chemistry, Latin, Advanced Math, college prep.
What Tutors Serving Surprise Charge
- Elementary: $35-$60/hour
- Middle school: $45-$75/hour
- High school math and sciences: $50-$90/hour
- Test prep / specialty: $60-$120/hour
Most Surprise ESA families cover the full rate through ClassWallet.
Arizona ESA for Surprise Tutors
Tutoring is an approved Arizona ESA expense. Individual tutors need a high school diploma minimum; tutoring businesses need accreditation or a signed attestation. Payment through ClassWallet — direct pay if the tutor is a registered vendor, otherwise reimbursement with an itemized invoice showing tutor name, date, subject, hours, and rate.
Online tutors are fully ESA-eligible when they're a ClassWallet vendor or provide compliant invoices.

I offer engaging online tutoring, enrichment classes, and one-on-one support designed to help children build confidence, spark curiosity, and develop a lifelong love of learning. ✨ Ever After Learning Where Every Child's Story Begins
Tim Ansley Music Lesson(The Psalmist)
I've been blessed to have been able to use the God given talents in music to play trumpet and auxiliary percussion for 50+ years. I had the privilege to have had opportunities to play in many different settings, professionally and voluntarily with most of my time spent in worship settings at the church my family and I attend.I was the instrumental music director at a private Christian school for 6 years and ran 2 different music schools catering to home school families. I teach Private Music lessons focusing on all brass instruments(trumpet, trombone, tuba, etc.), auxiliary percussion, and young elementary recorder. I teach beginning and intermediate levels on most brass and percussion, and up to advanced level on Trumpet. I will teach private and some mixed groups. I can come to your home school group meetings also to hold lessons. I look forward to serving your families and helping to train up your children in their God given talents.
Forsaken Cowboy Tutoring
I'm a software developer with 7 years of experience. I have been an instructor in computer programming at both STEAM Studios AZ and iCode. I've taught robotics and drones, web development, game development, Scratch/Blockly, and 3D Modeling. I can help students learn how to use cloud and AI tools, if that's wanted. I also have the ability to teach enterprise level development using many different types of technologies: cloud services, containerization, container orchestration, software pipeline development, Git or subversion, microservices, databases, logs, and testing. I'm also skilled in cyber security. I worked for a short period of time as a Security Operations Center Analyst, triaging tickets and diagnosing potential threats. I've held a cyber security certification for 8 years. I would be happy to train your child in blue teaming. I individualize my learning plans to suit the needs of the student. Younger children will likely start with Scratch or Blockly, and robotics, so they can see the way programming affects the world around them. Older students will focus on more abstract topics, using what they learn to create websites and other programs. I have access to various hosting services that can help us host a website for free. The most exciting part of teaching is seeing when a struggling student catches on to a topic and excels. As a Christian, I ensure a family friendly environment for my students and can teach them at your home or in a public location in Metro Phoenix. We can discuss availability, but I'm most likely free in the mornings and all day on Saturdays.

There is nothing more satisfying than watching a student explore and become excited about learning. My goal is to help develop lifelong learners. I also have a deep passion to help families who choose to homeschool. The span of my career has allowed me to see a broad range of strategies and best practices that equip me with a toolbox filled with a wealth of tools and ideas.
