Arizona ESA funds tuition at any Qualified School, meaning an Arizona private school that is nonpublic, provides instruction to K-12 students, and is not a school district or charter. - ASU Prep Digital, Arizona Online Instruction public school
- Arizona Virtual Academy (Stride / K12), AOI public school
- Primavera Online, Insight Academy of Arizona, Hope High School Online, AOI or district run online
- Any Arizona charter school, charters are public schools and enrolling makes a student ineligible

What ESA pays and what it does not at a private school
Typically paid
- Tuition, billed by Direct Pay or reimbursed
- Required curriculum, textbooks, and course materials
- Technology and course fees that are part of the academic program
- Standardized testing and AP exam fees charged by the school
Typically not paid or flagged
- Donations, tithes, and fundraising contributions
- Athletics boosters, spirit wear, and social events
- Missions trips and non academic travel
- Any lump sum "school fees" line that is not itemized
Ask admissions for an itemized invoice that separates tuition from fees. That single document prevents most ClassWallet denials.
How ESA pays tuition: ClassWallet Direct Pay
- Enroll and receive an invoice or tuition contract from the school.
- Log into ClassWallet and submit a Direct Pay Request (DPR) to the school for the invoice amount, searching by the school's legal name.
- ClassWallet reviews, typically a few business days, and pays the school directly.
- You never front the cash. Most schools accept monthly, quarterly, or annual DPRs.
For schools that are not yet ClassWallet vendors you can still enroll, pay tuition, and submit for reimbursement, generally 4 to 8 weeks. Most private schools that see repeat ESA families register quickly.

How to confirm a school is ESA approved
Before you enroll, verify three things:
- Qualified School status. The school is a private, accredited K-12 school in Arizona, not a district, charter, or AOI school.
- ClassWallet vendor status. Ask admissions directly: "Are you a registered ClassWallet vendor set up for Direct Pay, and under what legal name?" A yes plus the vendor name is what you need.
- Tuition and fees breakdown. Confirm which line items are tuition and which are fees like uniforms, athletics, and field trips.
