Veritas Homeschoolers

Veritas Homeschoolers - East Valley, Inc. is a 501c3 Christian homeschool support group which provides opportunities to meet and network with like-minded homeschool families. Our community is spread across the East Valley – from Queen Creek to Ahwatukee, and Mesa/Tempe to Chandler/Gilbert. We have more than 60 families, with kids of all ages and a full range of homeschooling experience represented. We offer monthly park days, field trips, service opportunities and more. PARK DAYS – Typically fall on the first Friday of the month at a local park. These offer homeschooling moms time to relax with friends while their kids play. Occasionally, speakers or a special holiday event or activity are included. Visitors are welcome to attend one Park Day to determine whether or not they wish to join. If you would like to visit, please use contact us to request more information. PICNIC in the PARK – These are held halfway through the month, and are an easy way to take a break from the school day. Most families bring their lunch and a blanket. FIELD TRIPS and SERVICE PROJECTS – Field trips are organized by members and are offered at least once a month, but more often twice. They can be located all over the Valley and beyond. Some examples: Phoenix Herpetological Society tour, MIM, Shamrock farms, Phoenix Zoo or Botanical Garden, a firehouse, MCC Performing Arts Center, etc. While we have an ongoing service project, we offer our members additional opportunities to serve their communities throughout the year. VERI-TALK – In addition to connecting in person at events, members receive support and encouragement through our member only email discussion group, Veri-Talk. It’s a great way to get advice for homeschooling, learn about curriculums, share prayer requests, and get referrals for anything and everything – piano teachers to A/C repair. Members use Veri-talk to share information about the latest homeschool events, book sales, or to schedule impromptu meetups and playdates. Veri-talk also provides members with a network of veteran homeschoolers who have graduated their kids and know the ins and outs of the high school to college/trades/life transition, and who are willing to answer questions and share their own experiences. SERVING – Veritas is a volunteer-led organization which relies on its members to lead, organize, and coordinate activities and administrative responsibilities. While this changes what we offer from year to year, it also produces dynamic opportunities. Volunteering is a requirement of membership.

Queen Creek and the San Tan area have become one of Arizona's biggest young-family growth corridors, and the Christian homeschool community here has grown with it. Most weekly academic co-ops serving Queen Creek meet in nearby Chandler, Gilbert, or Mesa — a short drive across the East Valley — with a rich set of Christian support groups, sports leagues, and ESA-friendly drop-off programs available closer to home.

A quick note before you reach out: every group sets its own membership requirements, statement of faith, dues, and meeting schedule. Confirm current details directly, since leadership and locations change year to year. The East Valley co-op scene in particular has seen recent rebrands (see the note on Branches and Steadfast below), so names in older directories may be out of date.

Academic Co-ops Serving Queen Creek

Steadfast Homeschool Community

Formerly Branches Chandler (through May 2025), now independent with the same leadership and members. A true cooperative; not a drop-off program, and new families join full-time. Meets in Chandler and explicitly serves Queen Creek families.

  • Type: Co-op
  • Emphasis: Christian (statement of faith)
  • Meets: Mondays, 9:00 AM to 2:10 PM, in Chandler near Price and Ray
  • Serves: Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Maricopa
  • Fees: $100/family annual membership, plus $50 per child per semester admin fee

GRACE Homeschool Community (Mesa)

Formerly Branches Mesa (through May 2025), now independent. Christ-centered academic co-op meeting Wednesdays in Mesa; commonly serves Queen Creek families along with the rest of the East Valley.

  • Type: Co-op
  • Emphasis: Christian
  • Meets: Wednesdays, Mesa

Gather at Grace

A Christ-centered East Valley co-op offering enrichment and academic classes, activities, and fellowship. Meets weekly on Wednesdays with events and field trips through the year.

Classical Conversations (East Valley communities)

A national Christ-centered classical homeschool program. Communities meet weekly during the school year, with parents serving as tutors and a licensed director leading each community. Curriculum spans ages 4 through high school within a Christian worldview. Multiple Maricopa County communities serve the East Valley; use the community finder to locate the closest one to Queen Creek.

ESA-Friendly Drop-Off Programs

Not parent-led co-ops, but popular with Queen Creek families using ESA funds.

Thrive Communities (Queen Creek campus)

A one- or two-day-per-week drop-off enrichment program with a Queen Creek campus, teaching history, science, art, and literature through a "Classical Remixed" curriculum. Fully ESA-eligible. Thrive describes itself as a faith-neutral academic environment that leaves faith instruction to parents, so it's not a Christian co-op per se, but many Christian homeschool families use it for academics.

  • Type: Drop-off enrichment program / ESA vendor
  • Emphasis: Faith-neutral (academics only)
  • Meets: 1 or 2 days/week, Queen Creek campus (plus Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and others)
  • Website: learnatthrive.com

Christian Sports, Clubs & Enrichment

EVAC (East Valley Athletes for Christ)

Forms homeschool sports teams that compete in the Canyon Athletic Association. Athletes must be homeschooled with at least 51% of core subjects taught by a parent; teams start as young as 6th grade. Serves the East Valley including Queen Creek and San Tan Valley.

C.O.M.M.A.N.D.

A Christian speech and debate club — "Christ On My Mind And Never Departing." Explicitly serves Queen Creek and the wider East Valley.

  • Type: Club/association
  • Emphasis: Christian
  • Serves: Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Maricopa, San Tan, Queen Creek, Casa Grande
  • Website: commandaz.wordpress.com
  • Contact: Jing Lee, jingflee@yahoo.com

Support Groups (Park Days, Field Trips, Fellowship)

These don't run weekly academic classes. They're for families who teach core subjects at home but want community and socialization.

Veritas Homeschoolers Support Group

A Christian-led East Valley support group of more than 50 families. Christian leadership and statement of faith, but membership is open to all homeschoolers. Requires homeschooling per Arizona law (A.R.S. 15-802) or under an ESA contract.

  • Type: Independent support group
  • Emphasis: Christian (open membership)
  • Serves: Queen Creek, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, Ahwatukee
  • Format: Park days (typically first Friday of the month), field trips, member email list (Veri-Talk), youth/PE opportunities
  • Fees: $50/year, or $10 if you volunteer; may be waived for pastor families
  • Website: veritashomeschoolers.org

H.E.R.O.

A long-running Christian support group network for the East Valley and beyond.

  • Type: Independent support group (network)
  • Emphasis: Christian
  • Serves: Queen Creek, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Scottsdale, Apache Junction, Phoenix

A Note on Branches and Steadfast

If you're searching older listings, the "Branches" name covers a network of campuses, and two East Valley campuses rebranded in May 2025 while keeping the same leadership and members:

  • Branches Chandler → Steadfast Homeschool Community (Chandler, Mondays; serves Queen Creek)
  • Branches Mesa → GRACE Homeschool Community (Mesa, Wednesdays)

Other Branches campuses still operate under the Branches name.

How to Choose

Want a full academic co-op? Steadfast (Mondays, Chandler) explicitly serves Queen Creek and is the most clearly documented East Valley option; GRACE (Wednesdays, Mesa) and Gather at Grace (Wednesdays) are the next closest.

Want classical Christian education? Classical Conversations (find the nearest East Valley community).

Using ESA and want drop-off convenience? Thrive's Queen Creek campus is fully ESA-covered, though it's faith-neutral on academics.

Want sports, speech, or debate? EVAC (sports) and C.O.M.M.A.N.D. (speech and debate) serve Queen Creek directly.

Want community without a class-day commitment? Veritas and H.E.R.O. center on park days, field trips, and fellowship while you direct your own curriculum.

ESA Funding Note

If you use an Arizona ESA, co-op tuition, curriculum, and enrichment classes may be eligible expenses depending on the program and how it is structured. Confirm eligibility through your ClassWallet portal and keep itemized receipts. Structured academic co-op fees (Steadfast, GRACE, Gather at Grace) and drop-off program tuition (Thrive is fully ESA-covered) are often billable, while support-group dues and informal park-day groups typically are not.
