Hi! I’m Barrett, and I’ve been teaching movie-making, 2D animation, and stop motion animation to children for nearly 15 years. I’m originally from Massachusetts and moved to Scottsdale in search of a stronger Christian community and a place where I could continue helping young creators grow!
My private lessons and classes are tailored to each student’s unique interests, abilities, and learning style. I have extensive experience working with students with autism, ADHD, and other learning differences, and I strive to create a patient, encouraging environment where every child feels supported.

Chaotic Canvas is a mobile blacklight art studio that brings hands-on creative experiences directly to homeschool groups, co-ops, microschools, churches, and families throughout Arizona. Our programs combine art, creativity, and STEAM concepts in a fun, engaging environment that encourages curiosity, problem-solving, critical thinking, confidence, and self-expression.
We offer blacklight canvas painting, Mini Motion Splatter Labs, Glow Labs, and curriculum-based educational experiences for learners of all ages. We provide all supplies, setup, and cleanup, making it easy for homeschool communities to enjoy meaningful, hands-on learning without the mess.

Group homeschool art classes vs. private lessons
Weekly group homeschool art classes (small groups, ages 7–17) are the most common format — students build a foundation across drawing, watercolor, and mixed media in a social studio environment. Private lessons are best for portfolio prep, focused work in a single medium, or students who need a slower pace. Co-op-hosted art classes let a group of families bring an instructor to their location for a semester.
What to ask an art teacher before signing up
Materials — included in tuition or purchased separately? Class structure — foundational skills (line, value, color, composition) or purely project-based? Age grouping — mixed-age or tight bands? Exhibits / shows — end-of-semester displays are a nice sign of teacher investment. Faith alignment — if a Christian environment matters, ask directly.

Yes. Private art lessons and homeschool art classes are among the most commonly reimbursed enrichment expenses on the Arizona ESA. The teacher or studio typically needs to be a ClassWallet vendor for direct pay; otherwise families can request reimbursement.
What's a good age to start art classes?
Structured art instruction usually starts around age 6–7 once a child can sit for a 45–60 minute lesson. Younger children benefit from open-ended art play at home first.
How much do art lessons cost in Arizona?

Are art supplies covered by ESA?
Consumable art supplies used in an ESA-approved class are often reimbursable when purchased through an approved vendor. Standalone art-supply reimbursement rules change, so check current ADE guidance before buying.
Can an art teacher come to our co-op?
Yes — many Arizona art teachers travel to co-ops and homeschool groups to teach on-site. Ask about minimum group size and travel fees.
Homeschooling and ESA-funded education are not the same thing
Under Arizona law these are two distinct pathways with different rules. We label every listing with the pathway it primarily serves so you know what you're signing up for.
Homeschooling (ARS §15-802)
Parent files an Affidavit of Intent. No public funds. Parent picks any curriculum and keeps full control. Co-ops, tutors, and enrichment are paid out of pocket.
ESA-funded education
Family signs the ESA contract and the affidavit is withdrawn. Quarterly funds flow through ClassWallet, expenses must fit ADE's allowable list, and receipts are required. Legally not homeschooling.
